Some of the first mobile trailers date all the way back to the 1970s. Modular homes are much different. They are sturdier and need to meet the same building codes as standard construction. Both modular homes and mobile homes are manufactured inside of a factory. They are only pieced together on the site. There are plenty of energy efficient and eco-friendly homes that can be purchased in this market. Some of the best modular homes are made out of shipping containers. I visited with a friend that recently made a house out of shipping containers. I was amazed that the place looked traditional inside. He had carpeted flooring, ceilings, windows, and walls. The kitchen had appliances like a regular house and the bathroom was nicer than the one in my apartment. The outside of the building looks very dark and bleak and cold. Inside of the shipping container home, things are much different. It looks very modern and up-to-date. My friend had an interior decorator help with the overall look, feel and design, so the flow is really nice and smooth. The guy is super creative. I’m not surprised he built a house out of old train yard equipment. I think the house is one of the most interesting pieces of functional art that I have ever had the pleasure of seeing. It makes me want to learn more about tiny homes and container buildings.
