Each year our neighbor puts out a Holiday light display that would make the Griswalds jealous. You know, the family from that National Lampoon movie. Anyway I consistently watch this process from the comfort of our recliner and wonder why he goes to so much trouble. For me it works out because I can like the Holiday lights without going outside and chilly myself! In our neck of the woods wintery weather arrives around the middle of October and doesn’t let up until early March. It seems like taking your health into your hands trying to decorate is just crazy. Last year, that same neighbor almost got frost bite hanging all of the decor on his house. I saw him out there chilly and went out to offer him a cup of coffee. He came in and thawed out for a bit and we started talking about his display. I even mentioned how beautiful it was and how I could see everything from the boiling comfort of our kitchen, but he simply said that he was ecstatic that I enjoyed it. I am sure he was thinking that I too should decorate so that he could look out at beautiful lights from his own home. I don’t guess I will ever know the need to stand outside, chilly and having our hands and feet at risk of danger just to put some lights on our home. I like resting in our perfectly heated new home and sipping a cup of tepid tea instead. I decorate plenty, it is just inside and I am boiling the whole time.
