I like working out on my deck

My favorite place to workout is my outdoor deck.

I have a wooden deck constructed across the back of my house.

It’s elevated and provides a really lovely view of my gardens, a large pond and several acres of woods. I often catch sight of deer, rabbits, woodchucks, foxes, geese and all kinds of birds and butterflies. Unfortunately the weather is rarely mild enough to exercise outside. For the majority of the year, it’s cold and either snowing or raining, and I’m stuck working out in my living room. Space is limited, and I worry about causing damage . As soon as the snow melts, I bundle up and head outside. When it’s chilly, it takes a lot longer for me to warm up. My muscles feel stiff, and it’s difficult to move around and get motivated. It doesn’t take long for the summer heat and humidity to make my workouts a challenge for the opposite reason. I’m sweating before I even start my warmup, and I tend to feel sluggish and tired. I still prefer being outside, with the sun on my skin and breathing fresh air. It energizes me and puts me in a good mood. On the days when the weather is ideal, my workout is so enjoyable. I carry my yoga mat, jump rope and free weights outside with me and spend about an hour on a combination of warm up, stretching, strength training and aerobic exercise. I go through various lunges, squats, abdominal crunches, burpees and pushups. After a strenuous workout, I always benefit from a more productive day.
