Leave heater on but open a window

I thought I was going to pass out when I visited my sister in her new home.

As soon as I walked through the door, I was hit by a really strong smell of paint.

Then I noticed how hot it was in her house. Apparently my sister had been working on painting several of the walls in the house. I guess she didn’t like the color that the house came with. She had also turned on the central heater and at least two space heaters in an apparent attempt to help the walls dry. The heat and the smell were overpowering. I also knew that it’s very unsafe to be closed up in a house like that was paint drying. I made her open up some windows. She said that she thought the forced air furnace took air from outside and so it was pretty safe to run it that way. I explained that it does not. The forced air furnace takes air from inside the house, in most cases, and so she was really just recirculating the smelly air. We got the house all opened up but left the heaters on. Then we went out on the porch and talked about her new house. There’s no way I’m sitting in that hot smelly house for very long. The house is really nice though. I also like the colors she’s chosen for her bedroom and the living room. My sister said she’s going to paint the kitchen next and one of the bathrooms. I reminded her to keep the windows opened even if the heaters are on. I don’t need her dying from paint fumes.
