My landlord destroyed her house because she voided a lease

My landlord just effectively ruined her house because she wouldn’t honor the agreement that we signed.

We both made it explicitly clear that she was responsible for paying the HVAC technicians if my furnace ever stopped working.

Sadly, my furnace stopped working, and my landlord didn’t honor that agreement. She has been ignoring my calls, and I waited for two weeks with a broken furnace for her to call the HVAC technician to have him fix my furnace. Since she wasn’t holding to the agreement, I decided to give her a taste of her own medicine. My mother has a large house, and she agreed to let us stay in the house until our furnace started working. My landlord expected us to fix the furnace ourselves since we couldn’t live in a cold house, but she didn’t know that we had a backup plan. Without the furnace working, the pipes in the house quickly froze, and we left them there for the winter. I continued paying rent since I didn’t want the landlord to grow suspicious. At the end of the lease, I moved out, and I told the landlord that she still needed to fix the furnace. You should have seen the horror on her face as she realized that she would still have to pay the HVAC technician and a plumber. Since we had the right to do this, she couldn’t sue me or take away my security deposit for not fixing the furnace. If you are renting, make sure to read the contract. If they promise to fix the furnace, make them keep their word.
