After some arguing, I convinced mom to accept a modern air conditioner as a gift

My mom Pat is so fiercely independent.

Before she met our father she worked as a contractor manager & was taking care of a few family members.

After he passed away a few years ago from cancer, Pat is insistent on doing as much for herself as she possibly can. She cooks, cleans, runs errands, & was even mowing her own lawn until I insisted on doing it for her instead. I have told Pat time & time again that I am more than capable of doing these chores instead, but I realize this is about her feeling independent & not feeling love a burden. I hope I have half as much energy & motivation when I’m eventually her age some day. Lately though I noticed something very odd in her house. You can hear when the a/c turns on because of a loud clicking noises that emanate from the thermostat. But when the a/c turned on at her house, I only felt tepid, room temperature air coming out of the ductwork. It wasn’t hot air but it entirely wasn’t too frosty either! I called to have the a/c checked while Pat was visiting her acquaintance an hour away. The Heating & Air Conditioning pro told me that she needed a modern a/c as soon as possible. I informed Pat & begged her to let me buy her the modern Heating & Air Conditioning system. As much as I didn’t like to do it, I lied about the price & made her think it was less money than it absolutely was in reality. I told Pat to accept it as an early birthday present, but in reality she desperately needed that device at all costs. Thankfully Pat accepted the modern a/c & no longer needs to worry about that concern moving forward.
