Customer had a very nosy and noisy parrot

I have been servicing heating and cooling machines for most of my life.

I went to HVAC university at 17, and was a certified HVAC specialist at 19, already with a job at a local heating and air conditioning dealer.

Being a HVAC tech is a pretty straight forward job, and doesn’t change that much. My schedule mostly remains the same and every day seems the same. While that might bother some people, I actually enjoy a predictable schedule. However, sometimes some of my heating and cooling appointments are quite funny and weird. A great example is yesterday’s HVAC appointment. I went to the appointment, expecting the usual and a guy answered. Everything seemed to go as planned, he showed me the issue with his window HVAC, and I leaned down to look at it. I suddenly felt a light weight on my back. Looking over my shoulder, I saw a massive parrot on my back. The man didn’t make any moves to stop the bird, but he told me it was a friendly African Grey parrot. I’ve never had a bird land on me before, so it was an interesting feeling having it walk all over me. The bird eventually settled on my head and started messing with my hair, which the guy told me he was grooming me. Although hard to focus, I did manage to get the cooling unit back up and running again. When I left his place, I sat in my heating and air conditioning truck for a few minutes and laughed at the oddity of the situation. It was kind of nice to have something so unexpected happen, and I smiled the rest of the day.
