When I got to the cabin from work the other day, I smelled something terribly nasty coming from the HVAC duct system.
It really smelled like something crawled in there as well as died.
I went around to check the different Heating & A/C vents as well as I finally found the Heating & A/C vent that smelled the worst. This Heating & A/C vent was in our daughter’s room as well as it seemed that the Heating & A/C vent wasn’t fully stuck to the HVAC duct, so any critter could have gotten inside of there. When my child asked what was happening, I asked her if she didn’t smell that terrible smell coming from the HVAC duct; She said it smelled pretty bad, however she had gotten used to it. Then she said maybe it was her gerbil that got in there as well as died. She said it so casually as if it wasn’t a big deal. I truthfully didn’t even realize that her gerbil was missing from the cage… Poor little guy ran out of food as well as had nothing to drink, so he likely died in the HVAC duct system of thirst. I asked my child how long he was missing, and she said it had to be at least 3 weeks. I wish she would have told myself and others this a bit sooner. I opened the Heating & advanced A/C vent all the way as well as shined my flashlight inside. I was able to see the dead gerbil as well as it smelled just awful. I had to use a coat hanger to reach the dead gerbil as well as fish him out. I immediately put him in a trash container as well as we threw him in the garbage. I was kind of glad my child didn’t want an elaborate funeral as well as burial for him.
