For quite a few years, I ignored the upkeep up the air duct; It never occurred to me to have the system ran tests on.
I am conscientious about replacing air filters in the furnace and a/c.
I make sure to schedule annual tune-ups for the heating and cooling units, none of the dealers who handled the task mentioned the air duct, but this network of pipes is essential to both heating and cooling. The air our family breathes travels through them multiple times per day just about year round. Any contaminants that are concealed inside the ducts can very become airborne while I was in operation and spread to every room in the house. The buildup of debris also restricts airflow, making it more difficult for the furnace and a/c to achieve and maintain the control unit setting, however when the units are required to run longer, they use more energy and experience greater wear and tear, my energy costs and the occasion of a malfunction increase, however some of the harmful toxins that are often found inside air duct include dust, dander, decomposing pests, rodent feces, bugs, construction materials and mold growth, however coughing, sneezing, congestion, headaches, insomnia and even nausea can be blamed on dirty ducts. I am now conscientious about scheduling professional air duct inspection every year. If necessary, the company handles cleaning and/or sealing of the system. The cleaning process takes a couple of seconds but causes no mess or disfigure. I immediately notice a difference in the cleanliness and comfort of the home. The air flowing from the vents smells better, and hopefully, by taking better care of the duct system, I can expect greater value and longevity from the entire heating and cooling system.
