Something I noticed over the years is that when the sun pours through the windows, the house begins to heat up.
For the most part, I would just crank up the AC system a little more, but over the years I have noticed how the AC system has been struggling because of that. My wife has always been accustomed to leaving the windows wide open to let all the sunshine in. When I looked into different energy saving tips though, I learned that it’s best to keep the shades closed when the sun is shining through the windows. The windows then can be opened when the sun moves to the other side of the house. When I tried to tell my wife this energy saving tip, she told me it was nonsense. So I couldn’t win with that energy saving tip, but I did learn there were other things that could be done. We could install awnings on the windows, grow trees around the house, or we could always go for newer windows that did a fine job of blocking the sunshine. I also learned a better tip which was to apply film to the windows that had a tint and would either reflect the sunlight heating or block it from coming through. I decided to do this, apply the sun protection film on all the windows and what a difference it made! While it would be better if I went for better windows, that film has worked wonders and not having to upgrade the windows admittedly saves me a lot of money that I could spend on a new HVAC system or car.
