When I was just a child, my family lived in real cold weather conditions… Most of the houses way up north in this area did not have central air at all; I genuinely had no a/c as a kid; all of us had ceiling fans in the living room in addition to family room, a window a/c component in 1 of the upstairs offices in addition to 1 fan for the bedroom. I am unsure of the insulation situation from the 1st floor to the next but my god in the Winter time when the heat was on it got dreadfully hot upstairs in the living rooms. I would need to run my fan on high the entire night along with the window a/c unit! You are not supposed to keep those in all year long, especially since snow will end up sitting on it in addition to wreck it! I did not care, I could not handle it. I begged my mother to leave the window a/c component in all year in addition to she reluctantly did; The weirdest part of all of it was that the downstairs area would be still “chilly” compared to the upstairs so when I tell you the heat rose, it entirely rose. It made it so difficult to find a comfortable temperature for us for the total house. I suppose that is 1 of the biggest downfalls of an older home – you never know how it was sealed in addition to it does not have a central system for heat in addition to air like the homes in the south do, but happily, my mom was absolutely okay with leaving the window a/c component in while I was in winter; even though it absolutely wasted so much of her money!
