It’s a boiler; not a furnace.

I remembered that my Mom had a boiler in his house.

The boiler was running all year round, even though every one of us used it to heat the house.

I thought all boilers were furnaces, and all oil furnaces were boilers. There was never any difference between the several, as far as I knew. The people I was with and I were putting oil in the tank to keep the boiler running in the summer; Without the boiler, there would be no sizzling water. When I met my partner, I found out he was an Heating & Air Conditioning specialist. I was telling him about our furnace a single afternoon, and I said Mom had been using the furnace for almost forty years. He told me a furnace had a life span of only about twenty years and I just didn’t realize what was happening when he had another furnace installed. I told him I wasn’t stupid, and I knew he had the furnace for over forty years. Mom had been talking about having a new furnace installed about a year before I met him. He was considering getting a new type of furnace… My partner looked at me and then he smiled. He asked if every one of us used the ‘furnace’ to heat our water. That’s when he laughed and told me it’s a boiler; not a furnace. I didn’t believe there was a difference, until he explained what it was. I felt a bit stupid, although he told me if I grew up with a boiler, I absolutely wouldn’t believe the difference. A conversation that started out with us discussing a new Heating & Air Conditioning system, and me talking about my Mom’s, ended up a lesson about Heating & Air Conditioning systems.
