I decided to spend the holidays with my immediate family this year. Since I live 10 hours away, I bought a plane ticket and flew to my sister’s house because she was within driving distance of all my other family members. This was the first time I’d visited my sister in her new house before, so I didn’t know what to expect. When I arrived, she showed me the guest room and made sure that I had everything I needed. When I saw an odd box above the bed, I questioned her about it. She told me that it was a ductless mini split system and that it was used to heat and cool the bedroom. I’d never heard of a ductless mini split system before, so I requested that my sister show me how to use it. She pointed to the small remote and showed me all the buttons and how they flipped between heat and air and how the temperature could be changed. When she was finished, I asked her why there was a ductless mini split system instead of central heat and air. According to her, the house didn’t have any central heat or air because the temperature was always moderate throughout the year. The ductless mini split system ran off of electricity and it was the most efficient way to heat and cool the entire house. There were several other ductless mini split units throughout the house and I was pleasantly surprised by how effective they were!
