The best and worst part about being a heating and cooling worker

When I get home from work all week, I want to enjoy my weekend and be home with my family.

There are many upsides to being in the heating and cooling trade. Not only do I make decent money, but I know great people in other trades and I have a steady reliable job. I’m thankful for the money and thankful for what I have. There are ups and downs to every job and some of the service trade jobs like HVAC technicians like myself have extreme ups and downs. For example, a good pay off to being an air conditioning repairman is that when my HVAC system breaks, I can fix it. A bad trade off is that sometimes when someone has to have their HVAC system fixed, it can be at the top of their attic in the middle of the hot summer. Being hot and sweaty is part of the job ironically, to make others not hot and sweaty. There are good and bad days like anything, and knowing how to fix an HVAC system shows grit and knowledge. It takes time, sometimes 4 to 8 hours to fix an HVAC system. There are many tools and wires associated with an air conditioner, and it’s a vital trade to the comfort of society. Some of my neighbors ask me for help and I don’t usually mind lending a hand, but it can be bothersome. When I get home from work all week, I want to enjoy my weekend and be home with my family. Sometimes when I get off, others call me to help them fix their air conditioner or plumbing system. I try to be nice but sometimes I tell them I can’t and I’m off relaxing. Fixing home systems like air conditioners is hard work and it can be tedious.
