This summer our air conditioner device starting rattling. I know of no other word to use to describe the crazy noise. It was an intermittent noise but honestly discouraging. It also seemed louder at night, when we were trying to get some sleep. The two of us tried adjusting the temperature setting and it still rattled. The two of us changed the filter, it still rattled. Since I know nothing about air conditioner devices, I could honestly think of nothing else to do but call for help. The two of us finally put in a call to our property owner and she promptly had a Heating, Ventilation & A/C service professional come out to inspect the problem. Of course the air conditioner device was not making noise when she arrived, but after a few hours she understood our frustration. She completed a thorough inspection of the Heating, Ventilation & A/C device, inside and outside the household, and determined that the coils were not defrosting. She actually showed myself and others the thick layer of ice on the coils. The Heating, Ventilation & A/C service worker said we definitely needed to shut the air conditioner device off for a couple of hours to allow it to defrost. The HVAC service worker cleaned the air conditioner component inside the household and recharged the refrigerant. She said we should be alright for a little while. The Heating, Ventilation & A/C service worker then said the air conditioner was over 15 years outdated and on its last leg, it entirely needed replacing. Our property owner had just purchased this component and remodeled and made expansive repairs. She entirely did not want the expense of replacing the Heating, Ventilation & A/C device at this time. I could totally understand that! Defrosting the air conditioner coils and adding additional freon did get us through the summer time without any additional complications.
