In our old house, my husband and I had a smart thermostat that we really loved.

When we sold the home, we had to leave the smart thermostat with the house, but we knew that we’d purchase another one for our new home. It took us a few months to settle in before buying the new smart thermostat, but we were anxious to install it. My husband installed the previous smart thermostat, so we thought the process would be the same. Unfortunately, the smart thermostat wasn’t compatible with our HVAC system and there was a special connection that we needed to install. This was beyond our capability, so we hired a technician to come install the new smart thermostat and the additional wire. Unfortunately, after spending over an hour working on it, the technician told us that it wasn’t possible. Our HVAC system wasn’t comparable and the additional wire wouldn’t help. The technician told us that the only thing we could do was replace the HVAC system. We were extremely disappointed, because we had been looking forward to our smart thermostat and now we’d never get to enjoy it in our new house. This was not the news we were expecting, so we’re going to get a second opinion just to be sure. There has got to be a way for a smart thermostat to connect, because it just doesn’t seem possible that it wouldn’t.
