All I needed was someone to give me a push.

I stood on the stone bridge that crossed the creek at the edge of our property.

I had been out of work for two years, and I knew it was time to get out of the house and do something. My company hadn’t reopened after the pandemic, and I was lost. I stood looking down at the swiftly moving water and thought that all I needed was a push. The wind caught me in the back and I wondered if it was the push I needed, and was it over the bridge or into a career? I could feel the chill of winter in the air, and I thanked Mother Nature. Between the chill and the nudge from the wind, I knew what I was going to do. Throughout the pandemic, the HVAC company had remained essential. People were home more and their heating and air conditioning was being used harder. This meant more repairs and a bigger chance for the HVAC system to need repairs. I called the HVAC company and asked if they were hiring. I didn’t know if I just wanted to work in the HVAC company or if I wanted to be an HVAC technician. I had enough money to take the HVAC certification classes and quickly signed up. For the first time in almost two years, I felt like a useful human being again. By the end of the year, I would be an HVAC technician, and hopefully working in the local HVAC company. With the help of the wind, I found a new career, and I wasn’t floundering in the creek.
