I work in a diner and sometimes I have to close the place.
When this happens I actually get a small little pay increase that week. Because there is so much that needs to be done when you close the place. One of the things that people do not even know is that we always have to make sure that the central heating and air conditioning system is turned off. They do not like to have the central heating and air conditioning system running when no one is there most of the time. The only time that this is allowed is if there is a major heat wave going on. Then they allow the place to have the central air conditioning system running twenty four hours a day and seven days a week until the heat wave is over and done with. This is a safety measure in the event there is a power failure. This way when everyone comes in during the morning time they will not walk into a mini inferno of a place! If the central air conditioning was off all night during a heat wave it would not be pretty to come in the morning. So that is the only time I do not have to make sure that the central heating and air conditioning system is off during the tasks I have to do when I close the diner. I have not had to close it in a while as others were assigned that task. But I am going to be up once again for the job next week and for the next month after.
