HVAC or car payment

I’m the type of person who is extremely frugal and logical with my money.

I really do not like to waste my cash that I work very hard to accrue.

That’s why I go out of my way to save a nickel here and a dime there whenever possible. However, there are certain times when even my tight budgeting skills are not enough. When there are unexpected home repair fees, for example, I suddenly find myself in a lot of financial hot water. This is exactly what happened last month when my heating system randomly failed on me in the middle of the night. I have been using my forced air furnace rather intensely because the outdoor air temperature has been so uncomfortable. The winter climate in this area is nothing to sneeze at. It gets very cold, blustery, and snowy throughout a six-month period. That’s when you are relying entirely on your central heating and cooling system to keep you alive. Unfortunately, my forced air furnace had enough of my daily abuse. I woke up one morning and the heating system was absolutely not responding to any of my thermostats demands. That’s when I realized I was going to need to make an important decision… To pay for a professional heating, cooling, and ventilation and repair appointment or to make my car payment that month. Do I keep my home warm enough to stop the pipes from bursting? Or do I make my car payment without the ridiculous penalty fee? Obviously, the answer was clear – I had to have my furnace repaired.
