Sometimes my imagination gets me into a whole lot of trouble.
Recently when I was working out in my basement, I was thinking that I could really use some more air conditioning down in the basement.
I had a look at the ductwork and thought that if I made a big enough hole in the ductwork, the cooling air would come flowing out while I was working out. I actually took a hammer to my ductwork and beat it until I was able to tear a massive hole through it. When the A/C was running, a lot of cooling air came out at that point, but I also realized that my ductwork was mangled pretty badly thanks to my makeshift HVAC vent. Also when I went to other parts of the household, I quickly noticed that the other parts of the household were not as cool any longer. It didn’t take long to see a huge jump in my energy bills and I knew that it was because of my mangled ductwork. When I called an HVAC technician to my household to fix the ductwork, he was shocked. He asked if I lost my temper or something and took it out on the ductwork. He couldn’t understand why I would break a hole so massive in my ductwork like that when it was completely fine. I explained that I wanted more cooling air in my basement. The HVAC technician said I could have just upgraded to HVAC zone control or had a ductless mini-split HVAC installed. I felt pretty stupid, so I just asked him to please just finish fixing the ductwork.
