Whenever I get asked for advice on taking care of things in your home, I always jump on this opportunity to tell people to take care of their heating and cooling system as well as a few other things.
Usually, the HVAC bit is ignored. I don’t know why, I will tell people multiple times that making sure your HVAC device is well taken care of, and will take you a long way, usually gets ignored. I have done this multiple times with my family, and they too usually ignore that bit of advice. My guess is because they don’t want to spend that extra money to have a HVAC technician do frequent maintenance. Even though I tell them that it is worth it in the long run, no one ever listens. Because of this, there is a major difference in the environment of my home versus my family. My family will continually have issues with their indoor air quality and their heaters and A/C all of the time, and constantly have HVAC techs walking in and out of their doors. Then they will come to me and complain about how expensive HVAC prices are nowadays, and how cheaply made furnaces and air conditioners are, and I will just be silently shaking my head in disbelief. I, on the other hand, almost never have issues with my current HVAC machine. This is probably because I get HVAC maintenance twice a year, in the summer and fall, and because I replace the filters continuously. I have saved so much money by doing this alone, and this is exactly what I try to tell my family, but they never listen.
