Using fireplace for heat

I remember going up north to my wonderful Grandparents’ dwelling as a child, and it was way up in the north woods, and they lived on a sizable piece of dwelling so it was a lot of fun to get to run and play in the forest with no one else around, and my buddy and I usually went in the Summer time, since my siblings and I were off of school, but once in a while my friend and I visited over winter cut instead.

I remember the visits vividly, especially the fact that my friend and I used an aged fashioned fireplace for heat. I guess the dwelling was equipped with an aged boiler or boiler system, but since it hadn’t been inspected by an Heating, Ventilation and A/C professional in years and was absolutely about 30 years aged itself, my friend and I played it safe and didn’t turn on the heater. It was charming to use a fireplace, considering the woodsy and aged timey setting my friend and I were in, but there was also plenty of firewood to use to fuel the fireplace, since my friend and I were surrounded by tall forests. I guess they had a giant stockpile already, and my sister would also chop wood to contribute to heating the site. I’m sure they didn’t like it as much as I did for that reason, but I entirely appreciated using the aged fireplace myself. It felt so strange from our suburban home life, and although it was inconvenient not to have a thermostat at our disposal, I guess it added to the experience. I guess it’s so funny how a crackling fireplace can become a lifelong memory.
