Using fireplace for heat

I remember going up north to my great Grandparents’ cabin as a child. It was way up in the north woods, & they lived on a large piece of cabin so it was a lot of fun to get to run & play in the forest with no one else around; My friend and I usually went in the Summer time, since my siblings & I were off of school, but once in a while we visited over winter chop instead. I remember the visits vividly, especially the fact that we used an seasoned fashioned fireplace for heat. I feel the cabin was equipped with an seasoned heating system or boiler system, but since it hadn’t been worked on by an Heating and Air Conditioning specialist in years & was absolutely about 30 years seasoned itself, we played it safe & didn’t turn on the heater. It was beautiful to use a fireplace, considering the woodsy & seasoned timey setting we were in, there was also plenty of firewood to use to fuel the fireplace, since we were surrounded by tall forests. I feel they had a big stockpile already, & my brother would also cut wood to contribute to heating the locale. I’m sure they didn’t like it as much as I did for that reason, but I really enjoyed using the seasoned fireplace myself. It felt so unusual from our suburban home life, & although it was inconvenient not to have a temperature control at our disposal, I feel it added to the experience. I feel it’s so funny how a crackling fireplace can become a lifelong memory.
