I labor as a piano player for hire. I mostly get gigs in small little dive bars, which is fine with me. It pays the bills. But one thing I am pretty certain on is the air quality in where I perform. If I get a task that is a smoke filled bar, I will turn it down flat out. Even if I have not had labor in a while as well as am nearly starving. I would rather starve that have to perform in poor air quality! Most bars have outlawed smoking as well as do not allow it, but there are a few that still do allow it. And those I will not labor no matter how much you pay me. In order for me to perform well, I need to have the most lovely air quality. I can deal with not perfect air quality if needed as well as struggle through, but flat out poor air quality from a venue filled with cigarette smoke I can not deal with, however funny enough I used to be a smoker, so you would recognize that I could handle it. But that is not the case. After I quit smoking I genuinely ended up buying a whole house media air cleaner for our house to clean out the poor air quality that was still lingering around from the smoke on our clothes, etc. That whole house media air cleaner sure did the trick. A lot of these bars should invest in whole house media air cleaners or something love it for commercial buildings.
