A/C cost goes up in the summer

I started renting a small house at the edge of town last September.

It’s somewhat tiny, but has plenty of space for a single person.

It’s a two bedroom one and a half bathroom house with a small fenced in backyard. The kitchen is small and the dining room is smaller, but the living room has a decent amount of space. It suits my needs perfectly, and I must say that the recently installed heating and air conditioning system served me very well the first 9 months or so that I lived there. Throughout the fall and winter months, I barely ever needed to use the heat as I much prefer cool temperatures in the house, especially at night, because I sleep so well in them. Because I moved in in September, I did not necessarily have to run the air conditioner all that much for the next 7 months or so, so my electric bill was quite reasonable. However, when mid-May arrived, temperatures started to soar. I still wanted to get away with setting the temperatures on the thermostat that I was most comfortable with. At that point I had gotten used to 72° during the day if I was at home and 68° in the evening. When I got to the electric bill for the month of June, I was shocked by how much more I was paying to maintain these temperatures because of the heat! I realized I would be sacrificing quite a bit of extra money in order to stay cool and comfortable over the summer.
