Air filtration and good indoor air quality

It’s really quite logical to me now that air filtration and good indoor air quality go hand in hand.

Perhaps this is obvious to everyone else and I’m just dumb.

But in my own defense, I was missing a big piece of the puzzle. I grew up and still live in a very rural area. While we don’t have a lot of choices when it comes to entertainment, nature abounds. It’s so beautiful here and I can’t imagine living anywhere else. I can deal with them rolling up the streets at 9 o’clock at night as long as I can enjoy the fresh air and good people. And that fresh air is what kind of trip me up when I first became a homeowner. First, I thought air pollution was for cities. Second, I figured if there was no air pollution outside of my house then there wasn’t any inside my house. Of course, that’s not the way indoor air pollution works. While we do of course get our indoor air from the outside air, it’s more complicated than that. There are a lot of synthetic chemicals that leach into the air from everyday things in our home. On top of that, we have plenty of pet dander in most of our homes. These combine to really pollute the indoor air. But all along, I thought the HVAC air filters I was using were cleaning the air. I mean that’s why there was dust and dirt on them, right? But I found out that unless it’s a HEPA filter, those other air filters weren’t doing anything but protecting the HVAC equipment. Now I know and I have a HEPA filter which helps me maintain good indoor air quality.
