I thought I needed a new air conditioner but it just needed more freon

Even though the weather has stayed pretty much the same, the inside of my house felt like it was getting warmer each day.

It seemed like I was checking the weather report on my computer several times a day to determine what was wrong. I’d convince myself that maybe the sun had finally emerged from beneath the clouds and somehow the outside temperature had jumped five or six degrees, but when it kept staying the same while the house got increasingly warmer, I knew there was something seriously wrong with the air conditioner. I have been keeping this machine regularly serviced and maintained for 17 years. People tell me to buy a new one and that after 15 years it’s foolish to expect an air conditioner to continue to operate in pristine condition. Even if a new machine would be more energy efficient, there’s no way I could manage to afford a new HVAC system right now. Thankfully, when my heating and cooling technician arrived, it didn’t take him long to diagnose the issue with my air conditioner. He said that it simply needed more freon refrigerant in the system. Once it was topped off and he turned the system back on, it was as if it was a brand new machine again. The air coming from the ceiling vents was nice and cold again. I’m just happy I didn’t need to buy a new air conditioner and could keep using my tried and true HVAC system. It’s hard to budget for something that costs over $4,000 when you’re literally living paycheck to paycheck. Understandably, I try to make everything in my house last as long as possible.
