It had been a long time since I was involved in HVAC work.
- They had retired me almost twenty years ago, but that didn’t mean I wasn’t familiar with the new equipment.
I still got a magazine every month, and it showed all the newest HVAC equipment. If I still had my license and could see as well as I once had, I would still be an HVAC technician. I don’t think HVAC as a career, is just for the younger people. I had a lot of knowledge I could give to some of these guys. When the HVAC technician came to the house to repair my AC unit, I would sure he was doing the job incorrectly. I wasn’t sure his assessment of the air conditioning unit was correct. I had looked at it and knew the lack of airflow had nothing to do with the coolant or fan motor. The HVAC technician was getting ready to put a new fan motor into the AC unit, and it was still running. I wanted to have a new AC unit installed. It was getting old, and it didn’t work nearly as well as it once did. I called the HVAC company and asked if I could talk to the manager. I talked to a man who introduced himself, and I recognized him as being the owner. I told him who I was and what was going on. He greeted me kindly and asked why I was sure I needed a new air conditioning unit. I gave him my reasonings, and he offered to come to the house. He told the HVAC technician that I was right and not to charge for a fan motor.
