My brother and I were always in competition.

From the time we could talk and walk, my brother and I were in competition.

We fought over toys, books, and even who got to sit on mom’s lap the longest.

Identical twins fight hard and love hard. We won’t let anyone else get in between us, but we want to always be the best. After high school graduation, I knew I wanted to be an HVAC technician. My brother became an HVAC technician because I did. Throughout HVAC technical training, we competed with other. If I got a good grade, he had to get one better. When I got my certification, he got his certification. I couldn’t even go to a class without him being in the same one. I wanted to have a life of my own, but I feared it would never happen. I couldn’t have been happier than when I got an apprenticeship from the best HVAC company in our area. He offered me a six-week apprenticeship, and if I did well, he would put me on full time. My brother didn’t get an apprenticeship with the same HVAC company, which thrilled me. I could finally accomplish something without competition. I wanted to be the best HVAC technician possible. After my brother told my father about his apprenticeship, my dad unerringly started another competition. My brother said he had to do his apprenticeship for two months. He wanted to see if he could accomplish his training in one month and become a full HVAC technician. He said it would prove he was the better HVAC tech. I smiled and told him to go ahead, because I would still be an HVAC technician in the better company.
