Learning the ropes of AC repair

When my A/C broke last summer, I could not afford to get it fixed.

  • Not only that, I could not afford to hire a professional to tell me what was wrong with it.

I know a lot of people say COVID is not a threat anymore, but I still felt very nervous without a working ventilation system in my house. Since I was dead broke I went online, to start watching tutorial videos about my brand of system. I fell down a “rabbit hole” as the saying goes, and spent days watching hundreds of videos posted by certified HVAC experts. I did not become an expert, but in the matter of a week I learned more about heating and cooling than I ever had before. At a local junk yard I located the right type of portable air conditioner to cannibalize for parts. It was not the same make or model as the air conditioner I had at home, but it was made by the same company. In one of my videos I learned about the specific part of my air conditioner that needed to be replaced. The HVAC expert who made the video said that the part was commonly used in all air conditioners made by that company. Instead of buying a new part for eighty bucks I bought the broken air conditioner for six dollars and took what I needed from it. Now my air conditioner is working again, and it hardly cost me any money at all. I hope all A/C repairs are this cheap.
