My brother Jim entered this raffle to win a new heating and cooling system last summer when we were at the fair.
We were walking around together while our kids took turns riding the ferris wheel and the little roller coaster shaped like a dragon. We were all having run and it was a nice night outside. We just happened upon this booth for one of the local HVAC companies and Jim decided that he was going to enter to win the prize that they were giving away. He said that he’s always lucky at stuff like that, so he just knew that he was going to win. I laughed because I always assume that those things are always rigged. I think they do them just so that they can get your email address and your phone number so they can send you a bunch of junk mail and marketing materials. Anyway, Jim entered and I didn’t. I forgot about the whole incident by the time the summer was over and we went on with life. Then later on in the fall last year, I called my brother and he said that his heating system had just torn up. He didn’t sound very upset about it, and I wondered why that was. He said that even though the furnace wasn’t working, he wasn’t worried about it because he knew that he was going to win the new HVAC system from the raffle that he entered at the fair. I just laughed because that seemed pretty far fetched to me. However, a week later, Jim called and told me that sure enough, he had won the HVAC unit! I couldn’t believe it.
