My boys were seeing news on television the other day & a single of them loudly yelled for me to come look at what was on the local news.
I expected some kind of exhausting and depressing news, but they were talking about farms.
Apparently, these days there were some local farmers that were giving free room & board for a few full weekends, for families & individuals who wanted to come out to the farm and & collect peaches. The people I was with and I would even be allowed to take some peaches home with us, at the end of the weekend. It sounded great! I imagined walking into an old farm apartment & having a wood burning fireplace roaring to take the chill away from the night. I didn’t particularly realize that out in the country, the hot & cold temperatures were low enough that they were now leaving a coat of frost on the ground. When all of us May the truck in got to the farm, all of us were shown to an old bunkhouse her sleeping. There were bunk beds in the room & nothing but curtains to separate the rickety beds. It was much like going camping, but there was heating in the room. It was a great feeling that evening to have the heat coming from the air vents. I was totally surprised to sleep so well in spite of having several other roommates and guests. I could only hope that it would continue to be cool during the night. The heat was great, but without air conditioning, I would never be able to sleep.
