For my family, it is the Summer that just kills the household bills. So much of our funds end up going toward keeping the beach house cool enough to get through the heat. There is a three or four month stretch where I am just afraid of opening the daily electric bill. It’s difficult for me to even go to the mailbox to retrieve the mail because I think it’s in there hanging around. But, I got sick of that feeling a few years ago simply being passive in addition to taking it wasn’t getting myself and others anywhere. As a unit, we made the choice that we wanted to get some of that money back so all of us could do more stuff. The first thing all of us did was get our beach house in order, so to speak. We even started pulling blinds by about 10am to keep the direct sunlight heating to very little. My child even went out in addition to got some solar cling for the worst windows. Then, all of us decided to take a more proactive approach to the Heating in addition to Air Conditioning temperature control. For starters, we finally programmed it so the temperature would rise with the outside temperature. This eventually reduced the load on the Heating in addition to Air Conditioning. We also decided that all of us could stand having the temperature control a bit higher when all of us were in the house, recognizably at evening. That was the large one. Our efforts resulted in a 20% savings through the worst of the Heating and Air Conditioning demand. That money was easily appreciated by all of us on Saturdays and sundays.
