I couldn’t understand why the HVAC company always sends the newbies to weirdos? It was odd the way I got sent to this old man’s house who had a pool in his basement.

Fortunately for me, I have a grandpa who is eccentric. He doesn’t have a pool in his basement, but he runs around with shorts in the winter, and wears sweaters in the summer. My uncle’s house looks like it came right out of an M. Night Shyamalan movie. It was rundown, and he didn’t care. It was rather nice inside, but he said that’s where he lived. They didn’t live outside, so he didn’t care what people thought. When they sent me to grandpa’s house to fix his furnace, I was glad to go, and I didn’t tell them who he was. I got to have tea with grandpa and grandma, and I got to show them what a great HVAC technician I was. I couldn’t wait for grandpa’s approval of my being an HVAC technician. After I repaired the furnace and showed them the bill, grandpa paid me in cash. I told him what everyone at the HVAC company thought of his house, and he and grandma laughed. They said that was a good thing, because now they would have their favorite granddaughter coming over more often. I kissed them both and headed back to the HVAC company. No one asked what happened at the house, and I didn’t think it was their business.
