Hurricanes have been frequently down here and during the summer, my family and I have to be prepared.
When storms are off the coast, we begin to prepare for hurricane season.
One way we prepare is to buy flashlights, extra batteries, sandbags, and extra sheets of plywood. We try not to wait until there is an actual storm to buy the products that we need. When there is a storm, it’s hard to get the things that you need because everyone else is shopping at the same time. Last summer we had a category 3 hurricane just off the coast. It hit north of us by 50 miles, but my family and I still felt the brunt of the storm winds. It rained all day and the roads were completely flooded. The ground was soft, squishy, and muddy. During the hurricane, our roof started leaking. I didn’t know if a tree had fallen on the roof or not, because we could not go outside to assess the damage while it was storming so heavily. When the storm was over, my wife and I got up on the roof to check out the damage. We immediately started looking for a roofing contractor. A lot of the cheaper roofing contractors were already busy. I found a company that has great rights and great service. Two days after the hurricane, the residential roofing company owner came to the house to look at the damages and give us an estimate. We had to pay for half of the roofing repairs up front and we had to pay the other half of the fees after the work was done.
