I didn’t believe him initially, but my brother said he was determined to figure out how to service and maintain his own central heating and air conditioning system from the moment that he purchased his own house.
He considered himself to be quite the handyman.
It’s just that he had never tackled anything HVAC-related other than the basic stuff like changing the air filter and making sure that drains were unclogged and changing out thermostat batteries. Well, he took advantage of all the tutorials on video sharing websites and all the articles he can read. Then he went down to the hardware store to get all necessary supplies for working on his HVAC system. It took some time and it took some trial and error but I can say with confidence now that after the past year he has demonstrated that he can take good care of his own HVAC system. He could even become a certified heating and air conditioning technician if he really wanted to. Of course, he’s just fine with his current job. Still, it’s nice that he has taught himself the skills necessary to save money on HVAC maintenance. As you would expect, I am seeking him out these days for help on HVAC related issues that I have. He’s taught me a few things with intent to eventually have me be able to do my own work on my own HVAC system, but I don’t think I have the time or the patience for that! I’d much rather take advantage of his expertise, though I had certainly been willing to pay him for his services. Most of the time, however, he’s happy to do it for free, whatever it is that I ask for at the time.
