The new guy took awhile to remove the old equipment

I’ve been pretty frustrated because the boss stuck me with the new guy this week. You might think that it would be quick to have a second person to help during the day, but I think having a second person drags me down. I’m quick and proficient at all HVAC repairs and installation jobs and I can usually move through things with efficiency and speed. I try not to move too quickly so I don’t miss anything, but I have been in the industry for more than 10 years. I have been Nate certified for seven of those years. The boss told the new guy to ride with me every day this week. On Monday the kid dropped an air conditioner on the concrete and we had to go all the way back to the store to grab another one. Thankfully it wasn’t an expensive machine. The kid could have cost us $1,000 instead of $200. On Tuesday the kid was supposed to help me with an all-day HVAC installation job. The new guy was supposed to remove all of the old equipment while I was working on setting things up for the installation. The kid kept disappearing and I found him on his phone twice. After 5 days of babysitting the new HVAC technician, I can say with certainty that he isn’t going to last more than a couple of weeks. The kid barely knows the parts of a simple residential heat pump and AC. After a couple of guys work with this kid, the boss is going to realize that he is not as skilled and knowledgeable as he expected.
