After twenty-five years, it was time to get a new HVAC system.
- Instead of blindly jumping into buying a new one, we decided to make a list of what was important to us, in a furnace and an air conditioning unit.
We then went through the computer to look up all the HVAC companies in our area. We called every HVAC company to see if they offered free estimates. Three HVAC companies offered free estimates and I made appointments with all three. I wanted to get the best HVAC system and service for the best price, without any shortcuts. The first HVAC technician to come to the house, already had an estimate worked up. He hadn’t looked at the house, or where the HVAC equipment would be. He simply figured for the scope of work and the cost of the HVAC equipment, and gave us the numbers. He said it could be off depending on certain factors, but it was close. I didn’t want a close number, or depending on factors situation. I thanked him for his estimate, and said I would be in touch. That afternoon, the second HVAC technician arrived. He introduced himself as the company’s HVAC contractor. He asked a lot of questions about the family and if there were any additions on the house, or planned additions. He went through the house and looked at the air vent placement, checked the ductwork, and looked at the HVAC equipment. His estimate was lower than the first one, and I was interested. The third HVAC company never arrived. It was an easy choice about which HVAC company we would use for our new HVAC system.
