Last summer was my first summer down south. I had just moved to the area a few months before. I was not prepared for how hot I was at home. Then my air-conditioner stopped working, dead in the middle of summer. Of course it was going to cost extra for an HVAC technician to come to my house ASAP. Beyond that because it was during the middle of the summer, all the HVAC providers I called had a pretty long waiting list as they were busy at the time of year. I had no choice really, and had to wait a few days before somebody could come out. When they did, the HVAC technician told me the bad news that my whole air conditioning unit was pretty damaged, and that any short term fix would almost surely mean that I would need more air conditioner repair soon-very possibly even later the same summer. The unit was very old and inefficient, so I decided to go for it and have a whole new air conditioner installed ASAP. But because it was the busy season I still had to wait a few days for the HVAC provider to come back. Coming back from work during that week was terrible, as the house was like a furnace. As I had just moved, I didn’t really know anybody well enough to ask to stay at theirs while I waited for my new air-conditioner to be installed. It was too hot to sleep in my house and it showed in my work at my job. Fortunately the new air conditioner was installed eventually, although not soon enough for me to make a few mistakes at work that were a direct result of my lack of sleep and stress that was caused by the whole situation.
