Both of us needed to start up the fireplace

I knew that there was going to be some pain after my surgery.

I knew I wasn’t going to be able to walk for a couple of weeks.

I also knew I would not have much of an appetite and I would be fatigued a lot of the time. What I didn’t guess was that I was going to be chilly. I had on my sweatshirt and my sweater and there were chills running up and down my spine. My partner was dripping with sweat but I couldn’t stop shivering. It was nearly seventy degrees outside and yet he was bringing in firewood for the fireplace. He must have thought I was nuts although he continued to get a fire in the fireplace. He told me he would have started the furnace although he didn’t want to start it up until the two of us had our yearly service done on it. I absolutely appreciated him at that moment. He was so patient with making our meals and doing laundry while I was recuperating. Now, he was building a fire in the fireplace to keep me warm. He spent the entire afternoon in the basement, as he changed out a small area that the two of us needed changed, before the furnace could be started. The next afternoon I got up and although the fire in the fireplace had gone out. He had the furnace running so I would not be cold anymore. I didn’t dare tell him that without the fireplace I had chills running up and down my spine, even though the furnace was running. I just wrapped a blanket around my legs and curled up in my recliner.
