It’s sort of hard for the younger set to understand that our regular of living hasn’t always been an on demand smorgasbord.
This is something I run into quite a bit and I try to deal with this mindset in an informative and patient way.
The fact of the matter is that I’m of the age where I had to hang up the PC on the wall. And it had a cord attached to it. All of us also had to unquestionably start a fire in our lake house for heating while in the winter. My parents were not well off at all and inherited an seasoned farm house. There was no such thing in that lake house that could be described as residential HVAC. I can remember when I was like in 6th grade, our dad brought apartment an air conditioner. Air conditioning in the Summer for us was a single window unit air conditioner. But the HVAC cooling that came out of it was like heaven. That’s how air conditioner feels when you don’t have it. These mornings, I can hardly imagine living in this region without the aid of current HVAC technology. Yet, I have a legitimately hard time convincing our grown children that the two of us don’t need to set the control unit in the 69’s when it’s nearly a hundred degrees outside. That just comes with the Summer in our house. Sure the HVAC machine is super efficient and I could easily afford to crank out more HVAC cooling. However, that just doesn’t make much sense to myself and others and seems more like a waste than anything else. I remember what it was like when HVAC cooling was simply a gift.
