Learning how my gas furnace works

After scouting the HVAC business for a good furnace, I finally settled for the gas one that I had installed.

While everything was professionally done and safety guaranteed, I knew that the best way to use this unit was to understand how it works. I am the kind of person who obsesses about understanding everything I own, and this furnace was not going to be any different. My HVAC technician was in for some trouble as I knew that a slight suspicion on my end would lead to endless calls. To prevent such occurrences, I devoted some time to understanding the furnace working mechanism. This would make it easy for me to know when there is a real problem and if it is easy to fix without professional assistance. Forced air gas furnaces depend on natural gas to work. One of the signature elements in this furnace is the pilot light which should always burn brightly. Air has to drop to a certain level for the pilot light to burn and light up the furnace burners, igniting the gas that warms the air. A draft motor then takes in air to the furnace. The burning air and gas combination then moves to the furnace’s heat exchangers and into the home’s air space. For this system to work seamlessly and effectively, it is vital to carry out regular maintenance. It is essential to clean and dust the furnace before turning it on. A fine-tune session is recommended if the furnace was not in use for an extended period. The pilot light should always have a blue flame and not yellow. The burners should also have no soot, and furnace filters should be replaced every 1 to 3 months. Seek professional assistance in case the issues keep recurring.
