Big and unexpected changes are not something I have ever been very comfortable with. I have built a life of routine and structure. Just knowing where to go, what to do and when to do it makes me feel content. Being pushed out of my HVAC controlled comfort zone is not my idea of fun. It’s weird how that happened given that I was a bit of a believer in spontaneity when I was younger. Then life happened. I got caught up in vying for that big office. You know the one we all work for. It’s at the top of the food chain and even has its own HVAC thermostat. I was locked into getting to the top. And, I ultimately did just that. But in getting there, I insulated myself with routine and sacrificed a lot of relationships. What I didn’t realize that being at the top of the food chain doesn’t ensure anything. I say this as I am attempting to rebuild my life having been shown the door. The company I helped build got sold and I was out in a matter of minutes. It all ended just like that. Hardly even a handshake. Just a severance check and a box with my personal belongings in them. I didn’t even get to say goodbye to that perfectly HVAC controlled office I fought so hard to occupy. But that’s okay. I’m now sitting in my home office and working as a consultant. I even went as far as to have a ductless HVAC unit installed in my new home office. Even though it’s a home office, I still get to customize the heating & cooling to my taste.
