Well, the new manager has started a culture change in this office that was needed well before the last manager took us to the bottom.
Over the years, I’ve always felt pretty lucky to actually like my career. I’ve had so many friends and acquaintances who just dreaded every moment they had to be at their jobs. I simply can’t imagine a life like that. But up until recently, I was beginning to see just what all those people were complaining about. I’ve worked in the same building with the same heating and cooling for 20 years. My work is fairly solitary but I am in with over 75 other colleagues inside our HVAC maintained offices. Well, the manager who oversaw this office for the last 3 years just got replaced. And it was overdue by a few years if you ask me. Morale had hit rock bottom and there were people actually ready to fight each other over the thermostat setting of all things. Granted, the fact that there was one thermostat for such a large area never made any sense. Yet, thing got so fractured that the thermostat setting was such a divisive element in the office. Well, the new manager has started a culture change in this office that was needed well before the last manager took us to the bottom. One of the first things the new manager did was to have the HVAC company come out and fix it so we now have zone controlled HVAC. That means there are 7 individually controlled heating and cooling sections now. It seems like a small change but you wouldn’t believe the rally in spirits the zone controlled HVAC was for all of us.
