Did you know that you can get your air ducts cleaned for as low as $99 depending on the state you live in? There are cleaning companies willing to perform this dirty task for little to no money. Although getting your air ducts cleaned isn’t something that is top of your list, frankly, if you’re like me, it’s probably not even on your radar. An HVAC air duct cleaning is something that should be done on a needed basis. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, you should clean your air ducts if you encounter any of these three issues. They include: 1) if you have some kind of animal carcass or infestation, 2) if there is a buildup of mold or other pollutants, and 3) or if you notice there is excess dust and debris around your vents or inside your home. On the other hand, some HVAC technicians and cleaning companies will recommend that the air ducts should be cleaned every 3 or so years. Some people believe that cleaning out the air ducts regularly will reduce health issues, but unless there is some kind of excess mold or buildup inside the air ducts, no studies have linked respiratory issues to normal air ducts. In fact, other pollutants inside our homes have a greater chance of creating health issues than dirty air ducts. While I can’t conclude whether or not cleaning out the air ducts is a needed maintenance for my HVAC unit, personally, it is not something that is high on my priority list. I have never gotten them cleaned and unless there is mold or excess buildup, I probably will never get my air ducts cleaned.
