There has been a whole lot less complaining about the thermostat setting
There are times where I just really get sick and tired on such fortunate souls just forever complaining. The sense of righteous grievance in our culture is not a good thing. We could all be a bit more thankful for all the good stuff that we share rather than what we perceive not to have. It’s sort of backward. So when I kept hearing complaints about the HVAC cooling in my home, I finally took some action. We are very fortunate to live in a very nice house with all sorts of nice stuff. That includes great HVAC equipment that keeps our house wonderfully comfortable no matter the season. Still, I’m not about to just waste resources or energy in order to get all the HVAC cooling I want. That’s just not the way it is. So during the heat of summer, I make sure the day time thermostat setting is in the low 80’s. And all I hear from my kids is how hot it is and why can’t we afford air conditioning. Instead of explaining it for the thousandth time, I took them all out to where there grandparents grew up. They saw firsthand what living without modern HVAC technology was all about. Grandma and Grandpa never had residential HVAC until after I was born. We sat in their house just the way it would have been all those years ago. And my kids finally saw for themselves just how nicely cool 82 degrees can feel when it’s a hundred degrees in the shade. There has been a whole lot less complaining about the thermostat setting. And a whole lot more appreciation for what we have in residential HVAC.
