I was really proud of my dad and everything he had accomplished.
- Since I was born, he had gone to school to be an HVAC technician, got to the pinnacle of his profession, and now owned an HVAC company.
Although he never asked, I wanted to join his company and be just like him. After graduation from high school, I walked into his office and asked him how long it would take to become an HVAC technician. Although he was glad I asked, he still wanted to know why I was interested. I gave him my reasoning, but I also said I wanted to work there for the summer, while waiting for the next class to open. I wasn’t sure what he was going to say until he stood up and hugged me. He said he would be proud to have me work with him and for him. I started out in the parts department, so I could do the inventory and become acquainted with the difference between furnace and AC parts. By the end of summer, I had made friends with most of the HVAC technicians, and I was ready for school. Dad said it would take me about six months, but I could have my job when I wasn’t in school. He paid for school and was making plans for our partnership in the future. It’s going to disappoint him if I don’t pass my certification test, but I’ll keep trying. As far as a partnership in the HVAC company: I was planning on being the owner some day.
