My family and I have a wood furnace.
Sometimes we have the opportunity to cut wood during the spring and summer months. Sometimes this amount of wood will last all winter. When the temperatures are cold, we frequently use the wood furnace. We regularly run out of wood and have to order more from a lumber yard. A brand new truck load of wood arrived on Saturday and the boys were supposed to unload everything. They left early during the morning and never returned to the house. I called their cell phones a couple of times, but I got messages that they weren’t coming home until the end of the day. I spent the whole day outside getting the wood into the shed. I was tired and exhausted by the time the day was over. When the kids got home at dinner time, I had a strict conversation with everyone about staying home and completing chores before they go out with friends. After dinner it started to snow. The snow started falling heavier and heavier. It was sticking to the house and the roads. The temperatures started getting colder and I knew we had to put more logs on the fire. I started to get up to tend to the wood furnace and my son told me that he would go outside. It’s been a long time since he has offered to willingly help with the wood furnace chores. I am hopeful my lecture got through to the kids.
