Imagine driving cross country with no AC

Last summer me and the family took a cross country trip in the new van.

My wife and I loved it, and the kids had some fun here and there but came to loathe the long amounts of time spent in the vehicle.

They wanted to be out and about, even if they were on their phones most of the time they still didn’t like being cooped up for so long. I can’t say that I blame them, when I was their age I was pretty much the same way. But my kids don’t know how good they had it, back then our road trips often times had no air conditioning to make it bearable. I try to get them to imagine what it would be like to spend 8 hours in a car with your whole family packed in together and no cooling. On top of that my dad was a chain smoker while he drove, so it was hot and the air quality was sickening. My kids don’t have to deal with any of that, in fact this van has individual air vents for every seat, so that the whole fan is equally cool at all times. I tried to teach them a lesson about what it used to be like, and switched off the A/C for a few miles. I ended up cracking before they did, because I am just as spoiled by cooling as they are. Maybe I can get an AC upgrade to make it louder, to drown out the complaining of my kids on these trips.
