For the last two weeks, my sister-in-law and my mother-in-law have been staying at my house with my wife and I. They really only came to see the baby, but it has been very nice to have them around. We don’t get to spend a lot of time with them, and it is always nice to have them over. However, I am getting very tired of hearing them complain about the temperature in our house. Apparently, they use their HVAC units differently than we do. My wife and I don’t make a lot of money, and we try to use our HVAC units very moderately. HVAC units can be very expensive when you are using them constantly, so we try not to. Right now, it is spring, and the temperatures outside and inside are perfect. Our house is currently sitting at 75 degrees, and during the night, we have the furnace set to 72 degrees so that we stay warm while we are sleeping. If we are cold, we open up the window instead of turning on the air conditioner. However, my in-laws are not used to that kind of heat. Even though it is not very warm, they usually set their thermostat to 69 degrees. They complain about the difference in temperature, and I have to spend all day hearing them while about it. However, I absolutely refuse to turn on the central air conditioner just because they are whining. I refuse to allow them to control me in this manner. They can use their thermostat however they want to, but we don’t want an outrageous electricity bill.
